Author Biography

Beate Kern

Beate Kern studied Diplom-Frankreichwissenschaften at the Freie Universität Berlin and in Lille (France) and also holds a Master’s degree Linguistique, logique et informatique from the Université Blaise Pascal (Clermont-Ferrand, France). In 2009 she completed her PhD at the FU Berlin on the subject of metonymy and discourse continuity in the French language. From 2010 to 2013 she was part of the DFG/ANR project EMOLEX at the University of Osnabrück. From 2013 to 2022 she worked as a research assistant and is currently a lecturer in the field of Romance Linguistics at the University of Rostock, where she gained she gained in 2022 her postdoctoral habilitation on the subject of mitigation strategies in Spanish and French parliamentary debates and their connection with intensification. Further main research areas are pragmatics, fictional orality and multilingualism in French and Spanish comics.
