Submission checklist

As part of the submission process, corresponding authors are asked to confirm or accept the following conditions on behalf of all authors of the article.

☑ The submitted manuscript is previously unpublished and has not been submitted to any other journal (otherwise a statement is attached in "Comments to the Editor").

☑ The author has written the submitted work himself / herself and is its author in the legal sense (in the case of several authors: jointly co-author).

☑ The journal will be granted the unrestricted right of first publication.

☑ The manuscript file is saved as Microsoft Word document (*.docx or *.doc).

☑ Text, tables, and figures follow the stylistic and bibliographic guidelines found in the formatting guidelines.

☑ Citations in the text are linked (cross-linked) to references within the document. Digital object identifiers (DOI) have been added to the references where available and linked (hyperlinks).

☑ All figures must additionally be provided as separate files in vector format (e.g. *.pdf / *.eps) or as high-resolution pixel images (e.g. *.png) in case of a successful review process.

☑ In accordance with the journal's ethical guidelines, the paper contains the following statements: (1) data availability, (2) funding information, and (3) conflicts of interest.

☑ The journal's author guidelines not named here are also met.

☑ After successful peer review all published articles in this journal are released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license and the articles’ metadata will be distributed under the CC0 1.0 universal license.

Articles

Original analyses of African languages and their social and historical conditions. We welcome articles from all linguistic research fields. Our special interest is the publication of linguistic primary data and their analysis. Articles should not be longer than 12,000 words.

Conference papers

Afrikanist*innentag

Articles which originate from papers that were presented at an Afrikanist*innentag. The Afrikanist*innentag is a biennial conference on topics dealing with African languages taking place at changing german-speaking Africanistics Departments. Conference papers should not be longer than 12,000 words.

Biennial International Colloquium on the Chadic Languages

Articles which originate from papers presented at a Biennial International Colloquium on the Chadic Languages (BICCL). BICCL is the only academic event worldwide dedicated to Chadic languages and culture contact in the historical area of Lake Chad. Conference papers should not be longer than 12,000 words.

Reviews

Original reviews of recently published studies on African languages and their social and historical conditions. Reviews should not be longer than 2,000 words.

Obituaries

Obituaries for recently passed colleagues. Obituaries should not be longer than 2,000 words.

Article Processing Charges (APCs)

This journal is an open access journal. The journal does not charge neither article processing charges (APCs) nor article submission charges. For authors, neither the submission nor the publication of articles in the journal incurs any costs.
