Author Biography

Maja Klostermann, Universität Innsbruck

Maja Klostermann is a research associate and doctoral researcher in French literature and cultural studies at the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Innsbruck, where she studied French and History. Since October 2024, she has been investigating (traumatic) memories of the Algerian War of Independence in contemporary French-language novels and their German translations as media of transcultural memory. Her doctoral thesis focuses in particular on the interplay between a narrow and broad concept of translation as well as on various translation processes and dynamics. In addition to the migration and circulation of memory narratives in German-speaking countries, she examines, among other aspects, political memory discourses and literary representations of historical knowledge and postmemory.
