Call for Guest-Editorship - Ethnoscripts 2026 Special Issue
Ethnoscripts is seeking proposals for guest-editorship of the 2026 special issue.

A thematic Special Issue consists of at least 5 and max. 10 articles, plus an editorial introduction of about 6000 words. Individual research articles should be 6000-8000 words in length. Articles can be published in both German and English.
Proposals should be sent to the Journal Executive Editors via email by 15 October of each year.

Proposals should include the name/s, contact details and position/s of the guest editor/s and all author/s. The proposed title and an abstract of 750 words outlining the thematic focus of the issue, titles and 200-word abstracts for all individual contributions should also be included.
Once a Special Issue has been chosen the peer-review process is being organized by the guest-editors. Once the guest editor/s have finalized their peer review the single Special Issue authors will have to submit their articles to the system. The articles then undergo a further revision process by the Ethnoscripts editorial team.
Proposals/Submissions should offer a concise and accessible analysis, inviting reflection and discussion among anthropologists and other readers interested in the intersections of society, culture, and academia.

☑ The corresponding author assures that he/she is authorized by all authors to make the declarations listed here, and that he/she and all other authors can dispose of the rights to the extent stated; in particular, that no rights of third parties conflict with the publication. In this respect, they jointly and severally indemnify the journal, the Hamburg State and University Library, and the publisher Hamburg University Press from third-party claims.
☑ All published articles in this journal are released under the Creative Commons Attribution - Share Alike 4.0 International license. By submitting a manuscript, the corresponding author accepts publication after successful peer review on behalf of all authors under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.
☑ The corresponding author accepts distribution of the article's metadata after successful peer review under the CC0 1.0 universal license on behalf of all authors.
☑ The privacy policy of the journal is accepted.
☑ The manuscript file is saved as Microsoft Word document (*.docx) or as OpenOffice / LibreOffice document (*.odt).
☑ Text, tables, and figures follow the stylistic and bibliographic guidelines found in the formatting guidelines.
☑ Citations in the text are linked (cross-linked) to references within the MS Word document (*.docx) or the OpenOffice / LibreOffice document (*.odt).
☑ All figures can be provided in vector format (e.g. *.pdf / *.eps) or as high-resolution pixel images (e.g. *.jpg / *.png) in case of a successful review process. See author guidelines and formatting guidelines of the journal.

Special Issue
Special Issues focus on specific topics once per year. These are topics of relevance to contemporary anthropology and human social life – preferably on a subject that Ethnoscripts has not addressed in recent years. Ethnoscripts offers the possibility to use and embed additional materials for the representation of research such as photos, sound and video. Think Pieces
The section Think Pieces presents short essays of 1000-1500 words that engage critically with contemporary debates, trends, or controversies. Think Pieces focus on key issues or developments within anthropology as an academic discipline, reflections on current trends or challenges in anthropological research and practice, how anthropology can engage with and contribute to wider societal debates, problems, or controversies, thought-provoking perspectives on the future of anthropology in a rapidly changing world.
