Author Biography

  • Tanja Schwan, Leipzig University

    As a research assistant at the Leipzig Institute for Romance Studies, Tanja Schwan obtained her doctorate in 2008 with a thesis on gender performances in periods of historical upheaval (Renaissance and Avant-Garde), and has been coordinating the research centre “Coding Gender in Romance Cultures” (CGR) since 2014. Her teaching and research cover Romance, especially French and Italian, literary and cultural studies. Doctor Schwan’s publications and research interests focus on staging the body, gender, emotions, and authorship in an (inter)medial setting, encompassing literature, opera, and film. Science communication is also a particular concern of hers. She publishes cultural journalism articles for the Bavarian State Opera or the Berlin State Ballet, among others, and moderates readings on contemporary French-language literature and philosophy.
