Submission checklist

As part of the submission process, corresponding authors are asked to confirm or accept the following conditions on behalf of all authors of the article.

☑ The submitted manuscript is previously unpublished and has not been submitted to any other journal (otherwise a statement is attached in "Comments to the Editor").

☑ The corresponding author grants the journal the unrestricted right of first publication on behalf of all authors.

☑ The corresponding author declares in his/her own name and in the name of all authors to have written the submitted work himself / herself and to be its author in the legal sense (in the case of several authors: jointly co-author).

☑ The corresponding author assures that he/she is authorized by all authors to make the declarations listed here, and that he/she and all other authors can dispose of the rights to the extent stated; in particular, that no rights of third parties conflict with the publication. In this respect, they jointly and severally indemnify the journal, the Hamburg State and University Library, and the publisher Hamburg University Press from third-party claims.

☑ All published articles in this journal are released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. By submitting a manuscript, the corresponding author accepts publication after successful peer review on behalf of all authors under the CC BY 4.0 license.

☑ The corresponding author accepts distribution of the article's metadata after successful peer review under the CC0 1.0 universal license on behalf of all authors.

☑ The privacy policy of the journal is acknowledged.

☑ Text, tables, and figures follow the stylistic and bibliographic guidelines, a well as the data formats, found in the formatting guidelines.

☑ In accordance with the journal's ethical guidelines, the paper contains the following statements: (1) data availability, (2) funding information, and (3) conflicts of interest.

☑ The author has ensured that the there are no conflicts with the journal's ethical guidelines regarding e.g. the publication of objects of questionable or undisclosed provenance.

☑ The journal's author guidelines are met.

☑ If the author has used generative AI in the research or writing process, this is acknowledged. It is the author's responsibility to ensure that its use does not infringe upon anyone else's intellectual property.

Article sections

Full-length articles
Full-length articles are research papers (from c. 8,000 words onwards), which are subject to peer and editorial review.

Short articles
Shorter articles that present an author's (or a group of authors') original research are subject to both peer and editorial review. These may include manuscript descriptions, transcriptions, etc.

Miscellaneous contributions
The journal invites contributions such as review articles, research reports, obituaries, reports on new or completed research projects etc., which will be subject to editorial review only.

Article Processing Charges (APCs)

This journal is a pure open access journal. The journal does not charge neither article processing charges (APCs) nor article submission charges. For authors, neither the submission nor the publication of articles in the journal incurs any costs.
